When I left the hospital I worked hard to find a small apartment. I am in a wheelchair with very limited movement in my hands and legs. My team & I talked about things I needed to have adapted so I could be as independent as possible. Most important was opening my front door. I didn't have the resources on my own to afford this adaptation so I requested and was granted the funding from Monroe Developmental Center in Rochester, NY.
Since I couldn't use a key or turn a doorknob Terry Robinson came to the rescue. He came and talked to me about what I needed. He watched me move and figured out a way for me to have a door opener on my chair that I could reach easily and push effectively when someone was at the door or I wanted to go outside. I now could come and go as I pleased. Terry also installed a door opener by my bed so I can let in my aide early each morning.
Over the years, Terry has been there whenever I needed an adjustment. He is responsive and knowledgeable and never lets me down.
